Youth in Government and Junior Youth in Government are nonpartisan YMCA programs that help young people learn to participate in civic affairs.
Youth In Government and Junior Youth In Government empower youth in the democratic process. Since 1936, "YIG" has given students around the country the opportunity to serve in a youth-run, youth-led model government process.
This program allows students, grades 6–12, to write bills and participate in the legislative process, make appeals and write briefs for court sessions, and have the opportunity to be elected into executive offices to coordinate the program at the state level.
Delegates from all over the state of Florida participate in this program and go to the annual State Assembly for a model government session in Tallahassee (9th-12th grades). Through this program, lifelong friendships can be developed, memories made, and experiences shared. Read more here.
